THE ITINERARY
(There will no doubt be some minor changes between now and ride day, but this is very close).
Pre-Trip Friday May 29
Free pick up of your fully assembled bike and luggage in your choice of cities:
Albany
Brooklyn
Elizabeth, NJ
Manhattan
Monticello, NY (Catskills)
Nyack, NY (near Westchester)
Paramus, NJ
Saratoga Springs, NY
Day 1 Saturday May 30
We meet up at our hotel in Montreal. No need to make hotel reservations -- we've already done it for you. (By the way, this is THE hotel closest to the start/finish line of the big ride -- we booked this far FAR in advance!)
How are you getting there -- Flying? Driving? Train? Bus? In our van? Not to worry -- all the details here. No matter how you choose to travel, we will transport your fully-assembled bike and your luggage for free! No extra baggage fees, no taking your bike apart for travel.
We'll head out for casual dinner early Saturday evening. We imagine that a few folks will still be in transit and that's fine.
Day 2 Sunday May 31
We ride! We'll have a full breakfast together and then head out to the 18,000 cyclist Tour de L'île ride. The city shuts down its streets to cars so we can enjoy a beautiful flat day of riding. You can pedal to the start line with us or go on your own -- as you prefer.
Your choice of routes: the 31 mile ride is completely closed to cars. The 62 mile ride is half on closed streets and half on bike lanes in areas that are open to cars.
Are you a fast rider? Slow? In between? Good! Enjoy the ride at your own pace.
We'll meet post ride for a celebratory drink or two and a casual dinner.
Day 3-6 - Monday June 1 through Thursday June 4
After a full breakfast each day we are off on a spectacular ride on the Velorute Gourmande -- the Gourmet Bike Route. This is 95% no-car bike paths and 5% sleepy suburban streets. More important, it features more than 100 breweries, bakeries, chocolate shops, wineries... You can zoom through if you want, but we intend to take it slow, enjoy the scenery, and stop for a lot of snacks!
